This article presents a new perspective on the squat skill. It is argued that a key skill when squatting is the ability to maintain balance throughout the movement and it is suggested that many technical errors can be understood as inappropriate attempts by the athlete to maintain balance. In addition, a description of the correct technical model is framed within the understanding of squatting as a balance skill.
