Development of explosive power in the lower limbs is vital for success in a variety of athletic pursuits and the vertical-jump is a common method used not only to develop this physical property but also to monitor progression. Even for activities that do not rely directly on a vertical-jump, vertical-jump tests can provide an effective measurement of power as well as an indirect measure of performance. Such tests have been used for assessing weight-lifters and powerlifters, football and basketball players, volleyball players, soccer and college students.
