Please email enquiries@uksca.org.uk with a pdf of your job or a link to a website advertising your job. We do not charge to advertise jobs on the UKSCA website, however, they must meet certain criteria.
The UKSCA was established to set and maintain minimum standards of S&C practice in the UK. We have achieved this through our accreditation process and our Accredited members at S&C Coach and the new S&C Trainer level have demonstrated that they can coach at the required level.
As such, the S&C roles we advertise must recognise those minimum standards of practice by either stating UKSCA Accredited S&C Coach or S&C Trainer as required or desirable. Also, the phrase ‘….or equivalent’ is discouraged as there isn’t an equivalent coaching standard, this never makes sense!
We used to suggest that ‘UKSCA Accredited S&C Coach or the ability to gain within 6 months’ was used, however this is no longer valid. It was relevant before Brexit, when the UK was part of the freedom of movement of workers across the EU. During this time, it was likely that a S&C practitioner from another European country had the required skills and knowledge to work as an S&C Coach in the UK but hadn’t yet taken our assessments. This 6-month period gave those people the opportunity to gain UKSCA Accreditation.
Over time ‘UKSCA Accredited S&C Coach or the ability to gain within 6 months’ has been mis-used, in that anyone can state on an application that they are ‘working towards UKSCA Accreditation’ and have the ability to gain in 6 months, but how do they know with certainty? It is difficult for employers to check.
We do want to see employers support early-career coaches who may not yet have the applied skills, knowledge and experience to pass our assessments and become accredited. These job roles are usually titled as ‘Graduate or Junior S&C Coach’.
In a nutshell, we would be looking for any S&C Coach job that is asking for more than 2-3 years of experience, to be stating UKSCA Accredited as a requirement. Anything less than this, should be supportive of the development of the coach towards UKSCA Accreditation (for example, we see jobs advertising that they will be mentored towards UKSCA Accreditation).
The new UKSCA S&C Trainer standard was launched in 2023. It recognises those working at a lower level of skill and knowledge than S&C Coaches, but still provides employers with a guarantee of standards of practice.
For some roles, UKSCA S&C Trainer be will perfect, for example those in related professions providing S&C as an adjunct to their main role such as sports coaches, physiotherapists, PE Teachers. See our pages under membership and accreditation for more details.
Any advertised job must be relevant to our members. While this means most jobs are for strength and conditioning or performance manager roles, we do advertise other roles which our members may be interested in, such as working for a sports technology company or lecturing posts.
In addition, while most jobs are UK-based, we do advertise jobs overseas that members may be interested in.
This statement usually concerns the payment and non-payment for early-career, internship and work-placement type roles. We will only advertise jobs that meet HMRC requirements in terms of the definitions of workers, volunteers, employees and self-employed, and the national minimum wage and national living wage. For more information see the HMRC website on employment status and national minimum and living wage rates.
